Real Madrid given permission for £350m development of Bernabeu with luxury private boxes
REAL MADRID will start their £35million stadium re-development after passing their final hurdle to get the plans accepted.
The Commission for Sustainable Developmen of the City of Madrid approved plans for the improvements to the Bernabeu, which include a significican t facelift to the private boxes.
Real had seen initial plans to develop a hotel next to the ground blocked in the courts, but they have finally received the go-ahead after reaching a compromise with Madrid planning officials.
A fully retractable roof and futuristic casing around the ground have been retained from the original plans as Real look to maximise the commercial side of their club.
The roof is able to display the name of the sponsors, while the entire circumference of the ground will include digital screens able to display video, scores and adverts.
The club plan for images to roll around the stadium 24-hours a day, bringing a big new revenue stream into play.
Though the attendance will not be increased, 3,000 of the seats will be updated, with most of the other inside work looking at improving the VIP offering.
Real are also planning to increase the size of their museum, already one of the biggest tourist attractions in the city, with the full works expected to last three years.
An investment fund owned by oil and gas company Cespa will help bankroll the face-lift – and it is likely they will be given naming rights over the ground.
There will also be 8,000ft of space freed up inside the stadium, as the offices are moved to another area.
The work could take around THREE years to complete.
